Classical Coaching Lab
January 2027 - Open Coaching Lab
True Horsemanship Happens in Layers, Not Quick Fixes
If you’ve spent any time working toward true lightness, self-carriage, and classical harmony, you already know the frustration... another exercise, another gadget or a generic training tip rarely solves the root issue.
Join the Classical Coaching Lab Today! Most riders don't need another mechanical trick or exercise to add to a checklist in the arena.
What you actually need is clarity. Clarity on why your horse is bracing through the jaw, dropping in their back, falling through a shoulder, or resisting a lateral movement like a shoulder-in or half-pass.Â
You need to understand the underlying biomechanics, map out a clear path forward, and have a coach help you navigate the nuances as you put it into practice.
That is exactly why I created this Classical Coaching Lab.

"The coaching lab was simply fantastic! I received valuable pointers on adjusting my seat and tempo—advice I was able to implement effectively—resulting in a visible improvement in both my own and my horse’s balance and posture after just one week.
I also gained a great deal from reviewing the videos of other participants. Patrick King possesses a remarkably sharp (truly gifted) eye; he helped us see things more clearly by playing segments of the videos in slow motion, revealing subtle shifts in balance. Bravo! Patrick focuses on ensuring the rider’s seat (body position) is correctly aligned with the movement being requested, and that the horse is brought into the proper balance before a task is asked of it.
Patrick dedicated ample time to each participant; there was never any sense of being rushed. He is a gifted trainer who achieves success with riders at every level—and he clearly enjoys what he does, too!"
What Is the Classical Coaching Lab?
This is a high-touch, small-group online coaching series designed to bridge the gap between classical theory and daily execution.
Whether you’re working on the ground, establishing foundational connection, or refining advanced lateral work in the saddle, this lab is built around whatever hurdle you and your horse are currently facing.
Instead of a one-off video review where you get a tip and get left on your own, we use a progressive loop of video analysis and feedback, specific homework, follow up, and feedback again... leading to real progress.
PLUS you will be part of a community going through the process with you, learning and growing alongside you and your horse.
The Power of Shared Learning
The most powerful aspect of this format isn't just getting feedback on your own horse—it's watching the process unfold for everyone else in the group.
All participants attend every live session together. By watching the break down of movement patterns, posture shifts, and rider timing across a small group of horses, your own eye sharpens exponentially. You start recognizing these patterns at home before they ever turn into training blocks.

"Thank you for taking the time to put together the coaching lab! Breaking it into small groups really allowed the sessions to be very focused, and I found the in depth analysis very helpful.
I really like that you were able to slow parts of the videos down and show just where and how things either went right or wrong, and you were able to give specific advice how to improve the horse-human interactions. And I also want to thank those who submitted videos. I had thought about it, but decided I'd just sit back and observe this time around. I appreciated that there were a variety of videos - from riding to working in hand, etc.
I found several helpful moments in each of the videos... I appreciate the way you are able to break down the interactions and explain what is happening in a very easy to understand way. I tend to think/analyze too much about what needs to happen where and when in order to be "correct" that I miss the moment.
Being able to slow down, pause, and rewind to actually see the "moment" and hear how you analyze it is really helping the way I think about things when I am with my own horses.
Thank you again for putting together such a helpful learning tool!"
How the Lab Works
To ensure every single participant receives deep, individualized attention and thorough answers, enrollment is strictly capped at 8 participants.
Participants are split into 2 working groups of 4, with all groups experiencing the exact same curriculum and schedule structure.
Each participant receives:
-
Two Video Submission Windows: Submit a 5-minute video of your groundwork or riding at the start, and a second progress video later in the series.
-
Live, In-Depth Coaching: Receive direct, detailed feedback during your group's live sessions as we break down your video on screen.
-
Tailored Homework: Walk away from each session with clear, sound ideas to work on before your next review.
-
Video Library:Â Participants will also have access to the entire Academy for Classical Horsemanship video library to utilize as reference and inspiration.
-
Full Access to All Live Sessions: Attend all 4 sessions live to absorb every coaching conversation, ask questions, and learn from your peers.
-
Full Session Recordings: Revisit the breakdowns and teachings anytime.
-
Community Interaction:Â Not only do you get to interact and ask questions in the Zoom calls, but you'll have access to a full community for sharing, asking questions, and staying inspired!

"It’s a really nice hybrid - you get the same benefits of the “live” coaching of a clinic, the benefit of auditing and seeing everyone else, and the two week format allows the time you’d get with regular lessons to have growth and exploration on your own. Having the library for reference is just an added bonus!"

"I would like to say that you are an amazing teacher and communicator. I learned so much..."

"Thank you so much for the Coaching Lab. It was a great opportunity to learn from the very best.Â
My lightbulb moment was how much more I learned to see in a very short video. Hearing Patrick's feedback while watching my video and the other participants' videos was a real eye opener. Â I didn't realize how much we could learn about each horse and each handler in a video that was 5 minutes or less. Using slow motion was particularly revealing.Â
This format truly complements the instruction Patrick provides in our virtual lessons. I expected to learn but I didn't expect it to be just as valuable as getting the guidance in real time. The level of detail and time to observe and assess each moment of our videos was inspiring.Â
The Coaching Lab was a perfect opportunity to get the help my horse and I needed in a supportive community.Â
Patrick is an amazing instructor who is able to share his broad knowledge in a way that is always encouraging and always geared to build confidence as learners for the humans and the horses.Â
It was especially good to keep the groups small but the sessions long enough so everyone had plenty of time to ask questions and share their experience.Â
The Coaching Lab helped my horse and me not only improve our specific challenge but also apply what we learned from seeing the other participants improve through the process.Â
It was certainly a success and IÂ look forward to the next one."
Is The Classical Coaching Lab Right for You?
This coaching lab is built for riders who are done guessing and ready to understand horses at a deeper, more classical, and more complete level.
If you want to improve your timing, recognize bracing patterns before they block your progress, and build true self-carriage in your horse, this space was designed for you.
Bring whatever challenge you are currently working on... from the ground or from the saddle ... and let's clear the path forward together.

"What was most beneficial was watching the videos in slow motion while you pointed out specifics of what to watch for. As in riding, it is hard to pinpoint these magic moments when everything is in constant motion! This is exactly what I had hoped to improve with this course - trying to see (even to a small extent) what you see in the horse.Â
... having clips of "real people" working with horses is beneficial in so many ways! Problems come up that wouldn't happen with an experienced trainer, the problems we all seem to deal with. You guided us to identify what the problem actually is, explained why it's happening and how to begin to fix it. Watching it in real time is a reminder that it takes time.
Bonus: it's a confidence builder knowing we are all learning and aren't horrible with our horses."
What is the focus or theme of the Classical Coaching Lab?
Do I have to submit videos to participate?
What if I can’t make it to the live sessions at the exact scheduled time?
How do the video submissions work?
Can I join even if I mostly do groundwork?

"First, the progress between the first lab and the follow up was tremendous. For the first time, I could clearly see what you were pointing out because you slowed it down and went through it a few times. That was a big breakthrough for me!
Here are two more things:
- my horse isn’t the only one that gets anxious when learning something new; I realize now (from the lab) that he doesn’t want to make mistakes
- the in hand work became a lot more clear Â
The result is that my horse and I can now do [the in-hand work exercises] each way and he wasn’t anxious at all! It flowed!
I am ecstatic!! Big win for us!"
